Do you really need a website — and if so, which one

Not every business needs a website. And not every website works for a business. How to ask questions before launching is in a new article.

At KRYLA, we are used to asking a simple question at the very beginning of any project:

What specific task should the site solve?

Because a site is not an independent goal.

It is an element of the customer acquisition funnel or a tool for solving other specific business tasks.4>

And before starting the work, it is worth honestly answering yourself a few questions:

  1. What task are we solving?

Do we need to attract new clients?9>

Or help existing partners work with us more effectively?10>

Or emphasize the brand's reputation in the international market?11>

  1. Who is our target audience?
  2. 12>

Who exactly do we want to deliver our message to?15>

Is this audience really looking for us through the site?16>

Will the site be a convenient and expected channel of interaction for them?17>

    1. Is the site really the optimal tool for this?
    2. 18>

Sometimes you need not a site, but a landing page for a campaign or a completely different form of online presence.21>

Sometimes — on the contrary — you need a full-fledged digital platform that becomes part of business processes.22>

      1. What kind of site do we need?
      2. 23>

Should it be a landing page for quick conversion?26>

        A corporate resource with a complex architecture?27>

An e-commerce solution for online sales?28>

Is integration with other systems important?29>

At the same time, even at the stage of thinking about the goal and the audience, it is worth considering the accompanying elements:30>

        • is there a resource for site administration, preparation of texts and creation of visual materials that will correspond to the target audience?
        • are investments needed in SEO and/or marketing campaigns to attract traffic?
        • 33>
          • is it necessary to adapt business processes in the company, taking into account the work of the site?
          • 35>

Without this, the development of the site itself often turns into a formality: the resource exists — but there is no real impact on the business.37>

In practice, we sometimes see: sites are created by inertia.38>

            Because everyone has one."39>

Because we are a serious company."42>

            Because it looks solid."45>

            Theoretically — yes, you can.48>

But in the modern digital environment, such an approach rarely brings real value to the business.49>

            • The site works only when:51>
            • its role is clear,52>
            • tasks are clearly formulated,53>
            • the target audience is defined,54>
            • accompanying components are taken into account,55>
            • functionality and structure are selected for the real needs of the business.
            • 50>

That is why at KRYLA we always start not with design and not with functionality.57>

              We start with the question:58>

Why do you need a site? What should change in the business after the site is launched?59>

If the answer is clear — then the project makes sense.60>

If not — it is worth thinking again about the goal.61>

Because a good site is not just the face of the company.62>

It is a working tool that solves real tasks.
